The Syria–Turkey crossing that almost didn’t happen
That crossing is only open to Syrians heading into Türkiye, or Turks heading into Syria. When I got there the gate was locked and no one was in sight — I stood waving at the camera for fifteen minutes before anyone noticed. In my dusty backpacking clothes, the guards assumed I was Syrian. It wasn’t until I held my passport up to the camera, crescent and star showing, that the gate finally opened. My bag got searched, and I waited another hour or two for the stamp. Not the crossing I planned — the most memorable one yet.
A Vietnamese girl taught me how to roll it properly
Fresh, authentic, and better than anything from a restaurant. From the rolling technique to the secret dipping sauce, this is real Vietnamese street food culture — not the tourist version. She handed me the wrap, looked at me, and just said: "you do it."
The first Cypriot to travel everywhere?
I’m a solo backpacker from Cyprus with a slightly ridiculous goal: to be the first Cypriot to visit every country in the world. Somewhere between the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial in Taipei and a night boat across Victoria Harbour, that goal stopped feeling like a joke.
